Your Personality Matters

One of the most enjoyable experiences of a day in the life of a salesperson is meeting with a variety of people, who all have different personalities. It would actually be scary if everyone was the same. The great salespeople will tell you that the way to success is being flexible and having the ability to work with all of these social styles.

While this is quite true, it is sometimes more important to know your own personality and why you react the way you do to the endless types of personalities you face on a daily basis. If you can master this, being able to work with others who are different than you will be a snap.

The toughest group of individuals to work with is the group that mirrors your own personality. This is where knowing your own personality becomes vitally important. The fact is that if you are not able to work with certain types of people, you are eliminating potential chances for success before you begin the sales process.

Saving a deep discussion of types of social styles for another day, the high level definition divides people into ‘people-people’ or ‘non-people people.’ It also divides them into ‘talkative people or non-talkative people. If you stop for a moment and think about these descriptions, you’ll start to realize that you have been surrounded for years by people who unique, and unique to you. Keeping these descriptions in mind as you meet more and more new people will undoubtedly enable you to communicate easier and open the door to more prospective clients.

In most cases it’s all about the other people. In this case it’s all about you and your ability to flex. What are your challenges when it comes to social styles? I look forward to hearing your comments. Until next time …
