Time Management; Nine tips that will get you results

1. Utilize a time management system that is right for you- There are countless systems available for use by salespeople. Most are digitally available, and some aren’t. There isn’t one better than the next. The important point is to find one that fits you and your way of doing things. And stick with it!

2. Managing your time is your responsibility and yours alone- You are the only one who understands everything you need to accomplish in your position. That means that you are also the best person to make sure that your time is managed to the fullest. Relying on someone else to do it for you drops you down a notch, and you will not get the same results.

3. Be flexible within the time management system you choose- You need to be aware of your surroundings and be able to be flexible when it is needed. If you continue ‘the same old thing’ without considering how outside forces need you to be flexible, you may be left behind, lowering your production.

4. Be generous and share your time management system with others- Being open with others about how you manage your time, will undoubtedly give you the opportunity to hear how others manager their time. A great opportunity to grow!

5. Always plan ahead- How many times have you written down directions (pre GPS and MapQuest) only to run out of room on the paper? Planning ahead keeps this bottleneck from happening. 6. Be good at keeping a poker face- many outsiders may give you a hard time because you are so anal and always are managing your time. Don’t worry about it. Keep your poker face on and move forward. The most successful people don’t get to their goals without planning and managing every moment of the day.

7. Take action when needed- having a time management system is not good enough. When your system is telling you to do something now-do it. Do not procrastinate! Staying on top of every action will keep you ahead of the game.

8. Include your mentor in your time management process- A mentor can be the best thing for a person who is unusually unorganized. Amongst the many areas a mentor can help is providing you with focus, and being able to focus is critical in time management.

9. Coordinate your entire sales efforts into your time management system- From prospecting to closing, every step you take is important toward reaching your goals and being a successful salesperson. Don’t try and cut corners to get to your goals.

What are your challenges when it comes to time management? I look forward to hearing your comments. Until next time…
