You have about a 68% chance of being a people person. If you are, what’s most important is if you know why you react the way you do to someone with your own personality, as well as someone who is not in your own social style. In fact, it doesn’t matter if you are a people person or not. It’s the flexibility you have in working with everyone.

If you are a salesperson and you eliminate certain groups of people from your prospect list, because you have a hard time dealing with them, you are eliminating potential company revenue and ultimately commission for yourself.

A good way to figure out what social style is the basis for a person’s personality is to notice what is around them. It may be the way they dress, or the items in their office, what they say when you ask them a question, or even how they answer a question. Being very aware is key to understanding the differences of people and therefore how you will work with them.

Like everything in the sales process, knowing your prospect’s a social styles takes preparation. You can certainly learn a lot about their personalities before you meet with them, and you can enhance your knowledge through questions. Remember that each individual is different, and even those with similar personalities are also different. Most important is to have fun with the education of learning personalities. It can help you in both your professional and personal life.

What are your challenges when it comes to relating to all a social styles? I look forward to hearing your comments. Until next time …
